Getting Started

When are classroom and bus assignments available?

Classroom and bus assignments are typically posted in PowerSchool in mid-August.

Grade-level welcome letters are generally posted during the summer and include important information for the upcoming school year, including school-supply information.

Bus routes and transportation information are available through RIS and Stamford Public Schools. Visit the SPS Transportation website for current routes and information about FirstView bus tracking.

What is PowerSchool?

PowerSchool is Stamford Public Schools' parent portal. Families can use it to access information including student grades, attendance and more.

Visit the SPS PowerSchool Parent Portal page for additional information.

School Day & Transportation

What time does school start and end?

Doors open at 8:45 a.m., with the school day beginning at 9:00 a.m. and classes starting at 9:05 a.m. The regular school day ends at 3:25 p.m.

On delayed-opening days, school begins at 10:55 a.m. Early-release days end at 1:15 p.m.

Because schedules are subject to change, visit the SPS Calendar for the current school-year calendar and early-release dates.

How do drop-off and pick-up work?

RIS publishes detailed arrival and dismissal procedures before the beginning of each school year.

Children should only exit vehicles in designated drop-off areas. Families should not use staff or visitor parking lots for student drop-off or dismissal.

Visit the RIS website for current arrival and dismissal information.

What if my child will be absent, late or needs a different dismissal plan?

Use PickUp Patrol (PUP) to report absences and changes to your child's arrival or dismissal.

If your child is participating in an after-school activity, you must update PickUp Patrol in addition to registering for the activity.

For same-day dismissal changes after 2:00 p.m., contact the RIS main office at (203) 977-4560.

Before & After School

What options are available for before- and after-school care?

ROSCCO provides school-based before- and after-school care for Stamford families. Visit the ROSCCO website for current programs, registration and availability.

Additional care and enrichment programs may also be offered by private organizations throughout Stamford.

Food, Uniforms & Everyday School Life

Where can I find information about uniforms?

Visit the RIS Uniform Store page for current uniform requirements and information about where to purchase uniform items.

Families who need assistance obtaining uniforms may also contact the PTO about our uniform fund.

Is RIS peanut/nut free?

Families are encouraged to be mindful of food allergies and avoid nuts and other common allergens.

For current allergy policies or questions specific to your child's classroom, please contact RIS directly.

What about breakfast and lunch?

Breakfast and lunch information, including current menus, is available through the RIS Nutrislice page.

Families may also send lunch from home.

Communication & Getting Help

How does RIS communicate with families?

RIS and the PTO use several different tools to keep families informed, including school communications, The Current, our PTO website, social media and the school directory.

Visit our Communications page for information about where to find what you need.

How can I get involved with the PTO?

There are lots of ways to participate—from becoming a Room Parent or Grade-Level Coordinator to helping at a single event.

Visit our Get Involved page to see current opportunities.

Whom do I contact if I have a question or problem?

For classroom-related questions, families are encouraged to communicate directly with their child's teacher.

For school-related questions that aren't specific to the classroom, contact the RIS main office at (203) 977-4560.

For PTO-related questions—or if you're simply not sure whom to ask—email president@rispto.org.
