Join us for family night at the book fair, featuring a discussion with Anna Nyakana, the bestselling author of Niyah Zuri and the Pharaoh's Throne and Niyah Zuri and the Mayan Eclipse. Check out her welcome video here!

Admission is free, and you may purchase the books for $12.95 each or two for $20, and Anna will sign them for you.

About the Niya Zuri Series

 

The books feature heroine Niyah Zuri and her friends in their time-hopping adventures through history. In The Pharoah's Throne, Niyah and Hugo and Manuel Gonzales discover an enchanted map, which transports them to the Triassic Period and then to ancient Egypt. In The Mayan Eclipse, the trio treks through jungles and explores ancient Maya. The books include extended glossaries to guide and challenge young readers.

About Anna Nyakana

 

Anna was born in Berlin, Germany to a Ugandan father and a German-Moldavian mother. She and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Stamford in the 1990s. As a teenager, Anna become involved in youth activism and later focused on literacy to empower youth, which led to the development of the Niya Zuri series. Anna believes it is crucial for children to see a reflection of themselves in the books they read. "My mission is to inspire them, one adventure at a time."

Anna has received many awards, including The National Alliance of Black School Educators' "Living Legend" award,  being named to Connecticut magazine's 2021 "40 under 40" list and receiving official citations from Connecticut's lieutenant governor and House of Representatives. Anna serves on the board of directors for the Born Rich Foundation, which  seeks to address socio-economic disparities through education.
